What areas do you specialize in? (ex: Creative writing, web development, finance, activism, etc.)

I primarily specialize in robotics, machine learning, and video editing. Over the past 4 years, I lead my high school’s robotics team, familiarizing myself with designing robots for different challenges, building them with different materials, analyzing circuitry, and programming them. I’ve also spent a lot of my time researching machine learning and coming up with my own models for tasks such as frame interpolation, a difficult task common in video editing, a longtime hobby of mine.

Talk about a time where you organized/built/created something.

Working with two other students, I built an assistive technology to help an employee at NIH with cerebral palsy with his job in filing documents. Over a course of biweekly meetings for four months, I built a total of five prototypes before arriving at our final device which allowed the employee to work completely independently and reduce the time it took him for tasks in filing documents from 20 minutes every time he needed to to just a single minute.

What is something you've learned related to your specializations, and what are your thoughts on it?

Working as my school’s robotics team captain, each season it was my responsibility to make sure we had enough funding to carry us through the process of getting the materials to prototype and build our robot. Through this, one of the skills I picked up was in fundraising through grants and gaining sponsorships for our team. Reaching out to numerous companies near my city, I was able to gather multiple sponsorships a grant from the Maryland State Department of Education for our team.

What are your passions, and how do you engage with them?

I enjoy creating things. This includes products for utility I’ve done with application development aesthetics such as those I pursue in video editing. Using my laptop I’m able to use techniques to create seamless projects with animation and motion design. I always seek ways to improve in this area, seeking common pain points for fellow video editors such as creating smooth motions and interpolating frames and using my other skills such as programming to solve these.

Have you applied to Startup Shell before? No
Why do you want to join Startup Shell?

I want to be a part of a community where I can work with likeminded people to rapidly build solutions and pursue ideas as quickly as I can think of them and be able support my ideas with all the hosting services provided.
