What areas do you specialize in? (ex: Creative writing, web development, finance, activism, etc.)

Software development, game programming, physics, some experience in simple engineering, some 3d software, 3d engines

Talk about a time where you organized/built/created something.

Just recently, I put together an API for quantitative finance, doing the full stack development in Python/Node.js/HTML/CSS. The API asynchronously scraped data from popular stock market websites every minute and inputted the data points into an SQL database. The API is hosted on Microsoft's Azure platform and can be called via a python wrapper that I built. Due to copyright reasons from the website, I can't expose the API publicly but will be using for personal projects in quantitative finance.

What is something you've learned related to your specializations, and what are your thoughts on it?

I have tried to cast my net wide in terms of areas of experience, so I have become really good at learning new things quickly. I find that the most important part of learning something is asking the right questions of the right people, because doing this correctly can really maximize the value that you get out of your time when trying to learn a new skill. I can apply this to programming, whether it be a new language, or learning some more advanced math or physics than what I had known before.

What are your passions, and how do you engage with them?

I enjoy working with anything technology based. I have mainly interfaced with this through software development, but I am really looking to expand my experience in engineering so that I can have multiple areas of expertise when innovating. I also really enjoy nature, and do a lot of hiking, going for walks around campus, of reading outside in some of the courtyards.

Have you applied to Startup Shell before? No
Why do you want to join Startup Shell?

By joining Startup Shell, I'm looking to develop skills faster than I could by taking a class, getting hands on experience with startup companies and the technologies that they use. This is because I would like to start my own startup some day, and while I haven't narrowed in on an idea, I would like to use this time furthering my knowledge in very applicable areas. I also would like to join the vast network of connected people that Startup Shell has to offer, and believe I can contribute to it.
